Romantic Playlist for 1?

I may have fallen in love with the romantic gesture when I first saw, “Say Anything”. My heart melted (and still does) as I watched John Cusack’s character boldly standing outside his lady love’s house in the wee hours of the night (or was it morning) as he held a gigantic boom box over his head that played Peter Gabriel’s In Your Eyes.

And maybe that is when I also fell in love with the idea of a romantic playlist. I mean, how could you not love the idea of someone professing their love to you through song, telling you again and again with beautiful words set to beautiful melodies that they treasure every ounce of who you are.

It is my romantic playlists that connect me to myself in a deep way, reminding me to fall in love with myself in ways that only I can give to myself. My playlist honors everything as I am, just as love songs should.

You and Me — Dave Matthews Band

This is one of my favorite songs ever! It always connects me directly to the little girl inside of my soul that wants nothing more than to be loved, hugged and respected. This song comes on and I sing at the top of my lungs, remembering that I am unstoppable as long as I remember who I am.

In Your Eyes — Peter Gabriel

I stand in the mirror many mornings, pep-talking myself into the day, expressing sentiments of love and support. When I look into my eyes, sharing deep love and adoration, my soul feels complete. There is no love greater on this earth than the love I have for and show to myself.

I Am Light — India Irie

While I don’t like to make assumptions, I do think it’s safe to assume that we all land on moments in time where we forget just how radiant we are. We get caught up in new stories derived from old stories that tell us we are less than enough. But, as I listen to the words of this song, I Am always reminded of my greatness, my strength. I am more than what you may see or think...we all are. We are all Divine beings with Divine opportunities to light the path we walk.

Nothin’ Can Change this Love — Sam Cook

Sometimes too easily, we overlook ourselves, ignoring our wants and needs. We can easily convince ourselves that something we’ve said or done makes us unlovable. But when I hear the words of this song I am reminded to tell myself that there is nothing I can do that can make me unlovable, unforgivable. I deserve to be loved, for better or worse.

Falling in Love at a Coffee Shop — Landon Pigg

I LOVE a good coffee shop. One of the lyrics says, “No one understands me quite like you do.
Through all of the shadowy corners of me.” When we pause long enough to connect to ourselves, we will see that no one understands us like we understand ourselves…and that is a beautiful thing. We must fall in love with ourselves, for better or worse, inside and out.

Why I Love You — Major

I love you because you first loved me. How beautiful. How unconditional. And isn’t that what we all want? To experience unconditional love. Inside, I don’t always feel lovable, but I have to look in my eyes and simply say, “I love you because…”. When we find that unconditional love from within, we are unstoppable.
